Bio

Matthew is a self-motivated, ‘end to end’ project manager specialising in digital and cinema events.

Most recently he worked as one of the programmers for the Doc Edge Documentary Film Festival and managed the educational wing of the festival, "Doc Edge Schools".

He was integral in taking the the Doc Edge Documentary Film Festival from screening only in theatres in 2019, to VOD screenings online and nationwide in 2020, and then to screening in theatres as well as online in 2021. He takes great satisfaction from his contribution to 'Covid Proofing' the festival, and sharing the latest and greatest in documentaries from around the world with broader New Zealand audiences.

Applying his programming knowledge, as well as his event planning, publicity and production experience to the education section of the festival, he consistently increased audience attendance and positive feedback for the programme over the last three years.

One of the key components of his role was organising and facilitating Q&A sessions with film directors and subject area experts from around the world, and then interviewing them on themes relevant to each film, covering a wide variety of topics.

He also researches and develops educational material full of activities and conversation starters for people who want to continue studying the themes and issues relating to each film.

His experience as a Digital Project Manager / Creative Producer has also led him to investigate how potential audiences may need help adapting to new technologies, (adjusting to the new online film festival format etc) and then developing effective solutions in niche UX situations for them.

Matthew also has production credits as a creative producer, researcher, and story developer on many New Zealand documentaries, including 2019’s SOLDIERS WITHOUT GUNS about New Zealand’s unarmed peacekeeping mission to resolve a 10 year civil war in the pacific.
